Barbara Whitten, Anywhere Travel Managing Director, and her husband Ray are currently onboard the luxurious Regent Explorer on their way from Tokyo for a 14 day cruise, returning back to Tokyo. Ray is writing as our Travel Journalist and shares this first part to whet our appetites.
“There are many cruise lines but few are six star. We are enjoying a six-star experience on Regent Explorer.
The suite (Concierge Class) is extremely comfortable with the King-sized bed facing the panoramic full glass window and door leading to a private veranda. This positioning minimizes any movement due to wave and wind motion, not that we have had any.
The bathroom has a full-size bath and walk-in shower. We have a dedicated steward and assistant steward who clean the suite twice daily and are on call. All laundry, pressing and dry cleaning is complimentary.
There are 3 specialty restaurants to choose when dining. Reservations are essential but often available on the day. We particularly liked Prime 7 which is a top steak house. Chartreuse serves traditional classic French food which is excellent. We also enjoyed Pacific Rim which serves dishes from Asia in both a classic and nouvelle cuisine style.
Other dining options include the main restaurant, Compass Rose which has an extensive range of dishes on offer as well as Sette Mare, an Italian restaurant which we frequented regularly. The Osso Buco and veal saltimbocca are top class. Neither of these restaurants require reservations.
Regent includes numerous daily excursions which are complementary. There are many to choose from and some are really fascinating – we’ll write more about them in part 2 of this series.
The ambience on board is relaxing and there are many activities such stretch classes, gym and pool for the body whilst the daily Mensa questions and Trivia assist the mind.
To sum up, this is the best 6 star cruise we have ever been on.”
